Checking The Sites

Today I'm checking the websites and having to replace a couple of videos which don't appear to want to work. I have also rearranged the home page and taken away some of the images in order to make the index page load that little bit faster.

Replacing Good Widgets

I love Good Widgets and I feel that they're better than what's on offer at slide.com. However, they do not play back reliably in the browser. Sometimes they do function but at many other times they do not. I have therefore changed both Good Widgets I had on this site and substituted them for other made at slide.com.

Box.net restrictions

It would now appear that www.box.net has made the uploading of files from its embed widget only available in the premium service which you have to pay for of course. I'm struggling with it right now and may need to seek out alternatives which do still allow file uploads in their free versions.
Mmmm, their name seems rather odd but this is a video upload site which gives you the facility of making video playlists from your uploads then embedding them as widgets into any website. getting video successfully uploaded to this site is proving a bit tricky but I will persevere.

www.dailymotion.com
Blidgets at My Widgetbox

I've upgraded to pro which will allow me to construct Blidget pros. I've already made on to show my newest content on Vimeo and my recent Flicr images. I just need to get the embed code and plonk it into one of my sites. I am very impressed by what these blidget pros can do.
Wikis at wikispaces.com

Everyone's talking about wikis these days so I thought we'd better have one on our site. As always, this IS rocket science BUT only for the brilliant people who create these applications. For the rest of us they are so simple to use. Making your own wiki quickly and easily shows us just how much web 2.0 technology has advanced in recent months. To make such a wiki a couple of years ago you WOULD have to had been a rocket scientist... but not any more!

Our new wiki
Yoga stereo microphone

I've just acquired a Yoga stereo microphone from Maplins for the princely sum of £20. It needs an AA battery and comes with its own stand. I've tested it out in Audacity and it appear to do the business - good little acquisition me thinks!
Samsung Master

Samsung Master is video editing software which comes bundled with the Samsung range of digital stills/video cameras. It is also freely available to download from their website. If this makes it 'freeware' then this is a great step in the right direction towards getting a decent video editor for free. The software handles all the latest MPEG4 flavour of video - initially impressive for free!
Capzles - Great but beta only

Capzles is a superb way to present photos, audio and other files in a kind of multi media timeline. I've been testing it tonight but, since it's still in Beta, there are difficulties. I do believe that Capzles will enthuse students when they see how stunning they can make their work look. I'm hoping to have a test Capzle on this site very soon.
New Samsung

I've got a new Samsung still camera with MPEG4 video capability. Right now I'm still charging the lithiun iron battery up but as soon as I am able I'll be giving the camera its video test. It looks like we may go to Bempton Cliffs on the East Coast tomorrow to see the breeding birds - if the weather's kind. I'll take the new Samsung and test it in the field (literally).
