Checking The Sites

Posted by Webtwo Tastic on Wednesday, October 21, 2009,
Today I'm checking the websites and having to replace a couple of videos which don't appear to want to work. I have also rearranged the home page and taken away some of the images in order to make the index page load that little bit faster.

Replacing Good Widgets

Posted by Webtwo Tastic on Monday, October 19, 2009,
I love Good Widgets and I feel that they're better than what's on offer at slide.com. However, they do not play back reliably in the browser. Sometimes they do function but at many other times they do not. I have therefore changed both Good Widgets I had on this site and substituted them for other made at slide.com.

Box.net restrictions

Posted by Webtwo Tastic on Friday, July 3, 2009,
It would now appear that www.box.net has made the uploading of files from its embed widget only available in the premium service which you have to pay for of course. I'm struggling with it right now and may need to seek out alternatives which do still allow file uploads in their free versions.

Daily Motion

Posted by Webtwo Tastic on Thursday, July 2, 2009,
Mmmm, their name seems rather odd but this is a video upload site which gives you the facility of making video playlists from your uploads then embedding them as widgets into any website. getting video successfully uploaded to this site is proving a bit tricky but I will persevere.

Blidgets at My Widgetbox

Posted by Webtwo Tastic on Friday, June 26, 2009,
I've upgraded to pro which will allow me to construct Blidget pros. I've already made on to show my newest content on Vimeo and my recent Flicr images. I just need to get the embed code and plonk it into one of my sites. I am very impressed by what these blidget pros can do.

Wikis at wikispaces.com

Posted by Webtwo Tastic on Thursday, June 25, 2009,
Everyone's talking about wikis these days so I thought we'd better have one on our site. As always, this IS rocket science BUT only for the brilliant people who create these applications. For the rest of us they are so simple to use. Making your own wiki quickly and easily shows us just how much web 2.0 technology has advanced in recent months. To make such a wiki a couple of years ago you WOULD have to had been a rocket scientist... but not any more!

Yoga stereo microphone

Posted by Webtwo Tastic on Wednesday, June 24, 2009,
I've just acquired a Yoga stereo microphone from Maplins for the princely sum of £20. It needs an AA battery and comes with its own stand. I've tested it out in Audacity and it appear to do the business - good little acquisition me thinks!

Samsung Master

Posted by Webtwo Tastic on Sunday, June 21, 2009,
Samsung Master is video editing software which comes bundled with the Samsung range of digital stills/video cameras. It is also freely available to download from their website. If this makes it 'freeware' then this is a great step in the right direction towards getting a decent video editor for free. The software handles all the latest MPEG4 flavour of video - initially impressive for free!

Capzles - Great but beta only

Posted by Webtwo Tastic on Saturday, June 20, 2009,
Capzles is a superb way to present photos, audio and other files in a kind of multi media timeline. I've been testing it tonight but, since it's still in Beta, there are difficulties. I do believe that Capzles will enthuse students when they see how stunning they can make their work look. I'm hoping to have a test Capzle on this site very soon.

New Samsung

Posted by Webtwo Tastic on Saturday, June 20, 2009,
I've got a new Samsung still camera with MPEG4 video capability. Right now I'm still charging the lithiun iron battery up but as soon as I am able I'll be giving the camera its video test. It looks like we may go to Bempton Cliffs on the East Coast tomorrow to see the breeding birds - if the weather's kind. I'll take the new Samsung and test it in the field (literally).

Get The Message

Posted by Paul Tasker on Friday, June 19, 2009,
I've found an amazingly simple widget today called Web Messages. You simply select the dimensions you'd like and the title then embed. It's truly stunning how easy it now is to put these things on your site.

Muzicons Rule OK!

Posted by Paul Tasker on Thursday, June 18, 2009,
There are many different audio player widgets available on line so you do have a good choice. I've just discovered Muzicons which I know will go down extremely well with students. A muzicon is a tiny player featuring a little emoticon which can be changed. The background colour of the player can be changed also.

AAA Logo 2009

Posted by Webtwo Tastic on Wednesday, June 17, 2009,
I wanted to find a good on line app to design the logo for this site. There are indeed some but the one I chose was a download and is called AAA Logo 2009. It is quite simply the best logo designer I've ever seen. I'm using the demo version so I can't save my final logo as a transparent .png file. That's why I took a screen grab and kept it within a white rectangle.

Web2Tastic First Blog

Posted by Webtwo Tastic on Wednesday, June 17, 2009,
I've found a really nice image scrolling widget at www.goodwidgets.com but, having installed it there may be reliability issues from their site. I was actually looking for an alternative to www.slide.com which is good but it's always wise to have plan B under your belt. I may have to continue my search for other scrolling widgets later on.
